Overview

Papa'z Song (Da Bastard's Remix) is a remix of 2Pac's Papa'z Song, created by Stretch for the 1994 Papa'z Song single. Rather than simply reworking the original mix, Stretch rebuilt the track around the instrumental from Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), giving the song a completely different atmosphere from the album version.

The remix also features an appearance by C.L. Smooth, further reinforcing the connection to T.R.O.Y.. Stretch's production transforms the song from a hard-edged album track into a more reflective and soulful recording while retaining 2Pac's emotional lyrics about growing up without his father.

Among collectors, the remix is widely regarded as one of Stretch's finest official productions and remains one of the most distinctive remixes released during 2Pac's lifetime.

Recording History

Following the release of Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., Interscope commissioned several remixes for the Papa'z Song single. Stretch, who had already established a close working relationship with 2Pac through productions including Crooked Ass Nigga, Tha Lunatic, Strugglin' and 5 Deadly Venoms, was selected to produce one of the featured remixes.

Instead of producing a conventional remix, Stretch reconstructed the track using the instantly recognisable musical foundation of They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.). The remix also introduced new elements, including guest vocals from C.L. Smooth, resulting in a version that stands apart from both the original album recording and the accompanying Vibe Tribe Remix.

The remix remains one of Stretch's highest-profile official production credits and demonstrated his ability to reinterpret existing recordings while maintaining the emotional impact of 2Pac's original performance.
