Overview

Nothing 2 Lose (Original Version) is the earliest known recording of the song later released on R U Still Down? (Remember Me) in 1997. Produced by Stretch during the second Thug Life recording sessions, the original version features Natasha Walker on the chorus and contains substantially different lyrics from every subsequent incarnation of the song.

Although only a short snippet of the original recording has surfaced publicly, it is clear that the song was already largely developed before 2Pac began rewriting it later in 1993. The original production established the musical direction that would be retained through later versions, making it one of the few songs to survive multiple revisions over several recording projects.

Recording History

The song was recorded during June or July 1993 as part of the second Thug Life sessions. Stretch produced the recording, while Natasha Walker provided the sung chorus.

Later in 1993, after the original project was abandoned, 2Pac returned to the song and recorded new vocals while retaining a similar musical foundation.

The song continued to evolve throughout 1994 before eventually receiving its first official release on Nothing 2 Lose included on the 1997 album R U Still Down? (Remember Me). Although the final release retained Natasha Walker's chorus, it was based on the later recording rather than this original 1993 version.
