Overview

Movie Commercial is one of the original recordings created during the sessions for Live Squad's cancelled debut album, Game Of Survival. Although recorded while the group were signed to Tommy Boy Records in the early 1990s, the song remained officially unreleased until Grand Imperial Records reconstructed and released the album in 2001.

The recording reflects Live Squad's distinctive blend of cinematic storytelling, aggressive lyricism and hard-hitting production. Even from its title, Movie Commercial suggests the group's interest in presenting their music with a visual, cinematic style, something that was also evident in the Game Of Survival promotional video released during the Tommy Boy era.

Although it did not become available until 2001, the recording preserves the original Tommy Boy performances by Stretch and Majesty, making it another important document of Live Squad's earliest recording period.

Recording History

Movie Commercial was recorded during the original Game Of Survival sessions between 1990 and 1991. The song formed part of the material prepared for Live Squad's debut album before Tommy Boy Records cancelled the project prior to its commercial release.

Following Stretch's death in 1995, the original recordings remained in Majesty's archive until Grand Imperial Records reconstructed the album and issued it commercially in 2001. As a result, Movie Commercial received its first official release nearly ten years after it had originally been recorded.

The recording remains representative of Live Squad's original Tommy Boy sound, capturing the group's raw energy before their later work with 2Pac and the more polished productions of the mid-1990s.
