Overview
Is It Cool 2 Fuck (Original Version) is an unreleased recording by 2Pac believed to have been recorded during the original Thug Life sessions in 1993. The song predates the officially released version that appeared on Better Dayz in 2002 and features a substantially different production.
Unlike the posthumous release, the original recording captures the sound of 2Pac's early Thug Life era, with a darker, more stripped-back production that places greater emphasis on the vocals. Although never officially released, the original version has circulated among collectors for many years and is widely regarded as the superior recording.
The song explores relationships, trust and sexuality from 2Pac's perspective, contrasting emotional vulnerability with the hardened persona that became a recurring theme throughout his music.
Recording History
Collector research places the original recording during the first Thug Life sessions in the spring of 1993. Session documentation indicates that the song was later revisited and remixed before the original project was abandoned, resulting in at least two known pre-release versions.
Although no official production credits for the original recording have ever been published, long-standing collector research generally attributes the production to Stretch. This has never been confirmed by Interscope or Amaru, and should therefore be regarded as informed collector consensus rather than an established fact.
The song was ultimately reconstructed for the 2002 album Is It Cool 2 Fuck, featuring a new Johnny J production, Natasha Walker on the chorus and a significantly different arrangement from the original recording.
