Overview
House Of Pain is one of the most significant unreleased collaborations between 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Stretch. Recorded during the closing months of 1993, the song captures a period when the three artists were still close friends, just before the events that would ultimately divide them.
Produced by Stretch, the recording features full verses from 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Stretch, with each artist delivering a performance that reflects the chemistry they shared during the early years of their careers. Although widely circulated among collectors, the original version has never received an official commercial release.
For the Live Squad archive, the recording is particularly important because it contains one of Stretch's strongest guest performances alongside both Tupac and Biggie. It remains one of the clearest examples of the friendship and creative partnership that existed before the East Coast and West Coast rivalry came to define hip hop history.
Recording History
The song was recorded during sessions in late 1993 and is generally believed to have been intended for The Notorious B.I.G.'s early recording sessions around the Ready To Die era. Although completed, it remained unreleased and circulated privately among collectors for many years.
A Bad Boy remix featuring Joe Hooker was later prepared for inclusion on The Notorious B.I.G.'s posthumous album Born Again, but was ultimately removed before the album's release. That remix is documented separately within this archive.
In 2005, the song was reworked once again as Living In Pain for Duets: The Final Chapter. That version replaced Stretch with Nas, added Mary J. Blige on the chorus and featured entirely new production, making it a substantially different recording from the original 1993 session.
