Overview
Daddy Bigtimers is one of the original recordings from Live Squad's Game Of Survival sessions. Although recorded during the group's Tommy Boy Records period in the early 1990s, the song remained unreleased for almost a decade before finally appearing on the reconstructed Game Of Survival album released by Grand Imperial Records in 2001.
The song showcases Stretch and Majesty at their most confident, delivering sharp lyricism over a hard-hitting Live Squad production. Like much of the material recorded during this era, the track reflects the realities of street life while demonstrating the chemistry that made Live Squad one of the most underrated groups of the early 1990s.
For many fans, Daddy Bigtimers ranks among the strongest songs from the reconstructed album, combining memorable verses with the gritty production style that defined Live Squad's Tommy Boy years.
Recording History
The recording is believed to have been made during the original Game Of Survival sessions between 1990 and 1991 while Live Squad were signed to Tommy Boy Records. The song was intended for the group's debut album, which was ultimately cancelled before its planned commercial release.
Following the collapse of the Tommy Boy project, Daddy Bigtimers remained in the vault alongside much of Live Squad's early catalogue. Following Stretch's death in 1995, Majesty later reconstructed the Game Of Survival album through Grand Imperial Records, allowing the track to receive its first official commercial release in 2001.
Today, the recording stands as one of the best examples of Live Squad's original Tommy Boy sound, capturing the group before their later collaborations with 2Pac and the darker style that characterised their mid-1990s recordings.
