Overview
Although little documentation survives from Live Squad's earliest years, "We Ain't Havin' It" is widely believed to be among the group's earliest commercially released recordings. Released in 1988 alongside Troopin' It, the track captures the raw, battle-orientated style that defined the Queens, New York duo during their formative years.
Performed by Stretch and Young Majesty, the recording showcases the group's aggressive lyrical style, energetic delivery and early chemistry. The closing shout-outs to friends, DJs and crews provide a rare snapshot of the local Springfield hip-hop scene from which Live Squad emerged.
The closing shout-outs include "my DJ Shalik", providing a second known reference to DJ Shalik on the BQ In Full Effect EP. Although little has been documented about him since, the two recordings suggest he was an important part of Live Squad's earliest history.
