The Reason is a track by Brooklyn duo Smif-N-Wessun, produced by Majesty during the sessions for Still Shinin'. Released in 2004, it represents one of Majesty's most notable production credits following the death of Stretch and demonstrates the continued evolution of his production style beyond the original Live Squad era.

Built around a dark, soulful instrumental, the song provides the perfect backdrop for Tek and Steele's trademark street narratives. Recording History

Following the deaths of Stretch in 1995 and E-Moneybags in 2001, Majesty continued producing independently while maintaining the signature sound that had characterised Live Squad throughout the early 1990s. The Reason was recorded during the sessions for Smif-N-Wessun's 2004 project Still Shinin', becoming one of the highest-profile productions of Majesty's solo career.

Although considerably more polished than many of Live Squad's earlier productions, the instrumental retains many of the elements associated with Majesty's work, including layered soul samples, understated melodies and heavy East Coast drum programming. The result is a mature production that complements Tek and Steele's distinctive vocal chemistry without overpowering their performances.

Unlike Majesty's work with Live Squad, The Reason was produced solely by him, marking an important chapter in his career as an independent producer. The track remains one of the clearest examples of his continued influence on New York hip-hop after the original Live Squad era.
