Roses (Live Squad Mix)

Overview

Roses (Live Squad Mix) is a remix of the Rhythm-N-Bass single Roses, produced by Live Squad and released in 1992. The remix is one of the earliest officially released productions by Stretch and Majesty outside of their own recordings, demonstrating the group's growing reputation as remixers and producers during the early 1990s.

Replacing much of the original song's contemporary R&B production with a harder hip-hop sound, the Live Squad Mix reflects the production style that would soon become synonymous with the group through releases such as Murderahh!, Heartless and their work with 2Pac.

Although often overlooked in discussions of Live Squad's production career, the remix forms an important part of the group's early discography and illustrates the demand for their production work before their collaborations with 2Pac brought wider recognition.

Recording History

The remix was produced in 1992 while Live Squad were signed to Tommy Boy Records. During the same period the group were recording material for their planned debut album Game Of Survival and releasing the Murderahh! / Heartless single. Their growing reputation as producers also led to remix work for other artists, including Rhythm-N-Bass.

Only a year later, Stretch and Majesty would begin their most significant production partnership, contributing extensively to 2Pac's Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. through productions including Strugglin', 5 Deadly Venoms and Stretch's work on Holler If Ya Hear Me. The Live Squad Mix therefore captures an important transitional period in the group's production career.

The remix remains one of the few officially released productions from Live Squad's pre-2Pac era and highlights the distinctive sound that would later become closely associated with Stretch's production work.
