Overview
No Nose Job (Fat Bass International Mix) is a remix of Digital Underground's single No Nose Job, produced by Live Squad and released in 1991. The remix represents one of the earliest commercially released productions by Stretch and Majesty outside of their own catalogue, showcasing the group's distinctive East Coast production style on a major label release.
The remix replaces much of the original production with a heavier, bass-driven arrangement while retaining the humour and personality of the original song. Its harder sound reflects the style Live Squad would become known for through their own recordings and later productions for 2Pac.
The project also marked an important milestone in the relationship between Live Squad and Digital Underground. Stretch would soon appear on Family Of The Underground, while his friendship with 2Pac developed during 1991, leading to one of hip-hop's most productive creative partnerships.
Recording History
The remix was produced during 1991 while Live Squad were signed to Tommy Boy Records. At the time, Stretch, Majesty and DJ K-Low were establishing themselves as both recording artists and producers, having already released their debut singles and begun working with artists outside the group.
Digital Underground were one of the biggest names in hip-hop following the success of The Humpty Dance, making the commission to remix No Nose Job an important opportunity for Live Squad. The resulting Fat Bass International Mix showcased the group's darker production style, which would soon become familiar through their collaborations with 2Pac on 2Pacalypse Now and later Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z..
Today, the remix is regarded as one of Live Squad's earliest commercially released productions and an important chapter in Stretch's career before his work with 2Pac brought wider recognition.
