Stretch — Audio Interview about Quad Shooting 1995
About this interview
This page presents the surviving audio interview with Randy “Stretch” Walker, conducted by Fab 5 Freddy following the November 1994 shooting at Quad Recording Studios in New York. In the recording, Stretch gives his own account of what happened as he and Tupac arrived at the studio, describing the people they encountered outside and inside the building, the confrontation, the shooting, the robbery of Tupac, and what happened immediately afterwards.
The recording is particularly significant because it preserves Stretch speaking about the incident in his own words. It provides a primary audio source that can be examined alongside the version of his account later published by VIBE Magazine in August 1995.
The surviving audio can be compared with the version of Stretch's account published by VIBE Magazine in August 1995.

Stretch — Fab 5 Freddy Audio Interview
The interview was conducted by Fab 5 Freddy as part of a series of interviews with people who were present or connected to the events at Quad Studios. The surviving recording contains Stretch describing what happened inside the building, including the arrival at the studio, the people they encountered, the shooting itself, the robbery of Tupac, and what happened immediately afterwards.
The complete surviving transcript is reproduced below, preserving Stretch's wording, repetitions and speech patterns. Paragraph breaks have been added for readability only.

VIBE vs. Audio — Detailed Comparison
The comparison below identifies passages which correspond between the VIBE article and the supplied audio, passages which describe the same event using different wording, and material which appears in only one of the two sources.
Detailed comparison of the VIBE article and complete supplied audio transcript.
Archival Notes
The VIBE article and the surviving audio are preserved separately because they are not identical transcripts. The comparison above shows that several passages are closely matched, while other passages describe the same events using substantially different wording. Other material appears in VIBE without a corresponding passage in the supplied audio.
The comparison is an archival analysis of the two surviving sources. It does not, by itself, establish the precise production or editorial process by which the VIBE article was created.
