Overview
The Heat is an unreleased collaboration between Rob G, 2Pac and Stretch, recorded for legendary New York DJ Ron G on 30 November 1994. The recording is historically significant as one of the final collaborations completed by Tupac and Stretch before the events at Quad Recording Studios permanently changed their relationship.
The song has circulated under several titles, including Representin' For Ron G and Fuck Whatcha Heard, reflecting its origins on Ron G's mixtapes rather than as a planned commercial release. Despite remaining officially unreleased, it has become one of the best-known recordings from the final period of the Tupac and Stretch partnership.
For the Live Squad archive, The Heat documents the final chapter of one of hip hop's most influential creative partnerships. Recorded only hours before Tupac was shot during a robbery at Quad Recording Studios, the song captures the friendship between Tupac and Stretch immediately before the events that ultimately led to their well-publicised fallout.
Recording History
The recording session took place on 30 November 1994 for DJ Ron G. Later that same day, Tupac travelled to Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan where he was shot during an attempted robbery in the lobby. Although Stretch accompanied Tupac to the studio, the events surrounding the shooting would permanently damage their friendship and mark the end of their close creative partnership.
Unlike many later Tupac recordings from this period, The Heat was never commercially released. Instead, it became known through Ron G mixtapes and collector circles, where it circulated under multiple titles.
The recording therefore represents one of the last surviving studio sessions featuring Tupac and Stretch before the Quad shooting and the subsequent East Coast-West Coast rivalry.
