Overview

Bury Me a G is the opening track from Thug Life: Volume 1, the only studio album released by Thug Life. Expanding upon an earlier solo recording by 2Pac, the final version features performances from Stretch, Mopreme, Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R, while Natasha Walker returns to perform the song's memorable chorus. Official credits list the production as Thug Music, the production team consisting of 2Pac and Stretch.

The song explores the realities of street life, ambition and mortality, with each member contributing their own perspective while Natasha Walker's soulful hook reinforces the song's central theme of remaining respected in death as in life. The combination of introspective lyrics and warm soul production makes the track one of the defining moments on Thug Life: Volume 1.

Recording History

Following the recording of the original solo version during the summer of 1993, 2Pac chose to rework the song as a Thug Life recording rather than simply releasing the original performance. Stretch remained closely involved throughout the process as part of Thug Music, while Mopreme, Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R each added new verses to create a true group anthem.

Rather than re-recording the song from scratch, much of the original instrumental and Natasha Walker's chorus were retained. The most significant change was the replacement of two of 2Pac's original verses with performances by the other members of Thug Life, transforming the song from a solo reflection into a statement of the group's collective identity.

Released as the opening track on Thug Life: Volume 1, the song helped establish the darker, more mature direction of 2Pac's music leading into Me Against the World. It remains one of the strongest examples of the creative partnership between 2Pac and Stretch during the Thug Life era.
